Phoebe Boswell was born in Kenya, grew up in the Middle East, and has finally settled in London where she lives and works, and where she received her Fine Art education at The Slade School of Art. With a formal base in painting and draughtsmanship, she says, "My main aim is to tell stories concerned with the dualities and conundrums of contemporary identity in this global world." These stories have, so far, been realised through graphic oil paintings, intimate pencil drawings, and large-scale 2dimensional installations which colonise architectural surface to surround the viewer. Recently, she has introduced time into her work by choosing to enter the world of filmmaking and animation. "I wanted to make my drawings move. What I've learnt is that animated film is a very compelling medium with tremendous potential, which communicates stories to audiences intimately and resolutely. To be able to draw and use existing technologies to manipulate and enhance these drawings is something that I'm really intrigued about. The possibilities are immense!" Having recently finished a Character Animation Postgraduate Diploma at Central St Martins in London, with a Distinction for her first film 'The Girl With Stories in Her Hair', Phoebe is keen to learn more by exploring the industry further, meeting and working with the exciting people within it, and pushing forward with her working practice.
